5 COLLECTIONS TO KNOW FROM THE PARIS MEN'S SHOWS

At this time of year, it's all about the guys. The men's collections wrapped up in Paris over the weekend, and, as with any fashion week, there were a mix of great, sellable, culturally insensitive and delightfully theatrical shows. Read on for all the highlights.

SAINT LAURENT

For Saint Laurent's spring 2016 men's collection, Hedi Slimane turned to California surf culture as a source of inspiration, pairing slim pants and beat-up sneakers with floral suit jackets, bombers, sweaters patterned with dinosaurs, fringed leather jackets and all manner of flannel shirts. (For the small group of women that walked the show: babydoll dresses, of course.) The result was a show that was strikingly true to life and immediately wearable, provided you're willing to shell out Saint Laurent-level bucks on a ragged flannel. Maybe digestibility doesn't push the boundaries of fashion that much, but it sure helps sales — which, as of February, have doubled in Slimane's first three years at the brand.

BALMAIN

In his first menswear show for Balmain, Creative Director Olivier Rousteing took fans and editors on safari. There was every variation of baggy pant under the sun — some tailored with cargo pockets, others with drawstrings that looked more appropriate for the weekend and all paired with lace-up sandals. As for the jackets, there was something for everyone there, too: a classic model in a burnt sienna leather, embroidered blazers of the sort that Rousteing himself favors, strong Balmain shoulders, tiger stripes and pockets everywhere. All in all, the collection made perfect sense as the men's counterpart to what Rousteing has been cooking up on the women's side. The Kanye to his Kim.

JUNYA WATANABE MAN

You know what they say: it's not fashion week if someone hasn't committed an act of gross cultural appropriation. This time around it was Junya Watanabe, with what some people are calling his "Rachel Dolezal collection." Think African influences, Masai-style necklaces, dreadlock wigs and very colonialist-looking safari outfits — styled, as The Cut pointed out, on an entirely white cast of models.

OFF-WHITE

For spring, Virgil Abloh dubbed his collection "Blue Collar" — although, as he told Style.com, his aim was to present white collar clothes. Quite literally it had both, in an expertly styled presentation focused on long, lean layers, broken up occasionally with a jacket tied voluminously at the waist. Incredibly consistent and very cool, the collection also marks a moment at which Abloh (who, it should be pointed out, rose to fame as Kanye West's creative director) is aiming to transition away from streetwear and toward menswear. Oh, and the 1-855-OFF-WHTE number printed on some of Abloh's tees? Try calling it.

BERLUTI

While the clothing content of Berluti's show at the Musée Picasso was pretty wonderful, with its refreshingly straightforward color palette of grass green, blue, yellow and red, what really got people's attention was its live installation — of rows and rows of male models reclining in lawn chairs, reading the newspaper in their boxers, socks and dress shoes. It's not hard to see why.

ADAM JONA Launches "POP POLITICIAN" Music Video

The "Electric Prince" Adam Jona has released a music video of his electro-pop fusion song called "Pop Politician" online last June 24, 2015.
In the video, Jona plays the role of an alien sent to earth by his father to become the biggest “pop politician of the galaxy” whose aim is to rid the world of greed and corruption.
Pop Politician is composed by Premo D’Anger, a previous Justin Timberlake collaborator. Jona wrote the lyrics himself.
The Budapest-born Jona, who is also an actor and a human rights activist, started his career as a ballroom dancer.
Jona was discovered by Premo in Hollywood in 2011. He won China’s popular TV show “The Return of the Superstar” on Tianjin TV in 2013.

POP POLITICIAN from JÓNA on Vimeo.

Jona is a superhuman from somewhere far away in the universe, who was sent to earth by his father to become the biggest and brightest pop politician of the galaxy. He is destined to help the entire human race to better themselves and lead them away from greed and corruption. He happened to land naked on American soil, where he was welcomed by beautiful, goddess-like human girls. They dressed him up and made him into a handsome and powerful pop politician. Soon after, Jona started to address the issues of hate, love, money, greed, control, power, drugs, painkillers, overdose, and so on. He succeeded with his campaign and successfully become the most powerful superhuman in the entire galaxy. Upon entering the political elite, he changed his sexual orientation and adopted two hot African-American boys as his secret service special agents. Unfortunately, he soon became corrupted as well. However, Jona continues advocating these modern issues, although people demand him to go back to space. However, the fun continues. The message is very clear because there are only a few key words being communicated to the audience.

“Pop Politician” expands on a brilliant and entertaining concept, which should inspire the young generation to take control of their future by contributing their votes to the upcoming 2016 elections in the United States of America.

DAISY REYES: BEAUTIFULLY DYNAMIC

by: Lorna S. Emata

Think Daisy Reyes and you immediately come up with two things - beauty queen and celebrity. Hers is undeniably a household name. In the world of beauty and glamour, she has proven herself to be a figure to reckon with. Garnering top spots in all the beauty pageants she joined and doing around 30 films in 6 years in the movie industry, complete with all the trimmings of trials and challenges that came her way isn't something an ordinary person can achieve. She even had the luck to have an album to her name, being gifted with a nice, singing voice. This is one tough and determined individual.

Looking back on her childhood, where she had to work at a tender age and has never stopped since then, one will understand why Daisy came to be where she is now. At 12, she was singing in fiestas under the Ric Radam show. One day, on her way to run an errand for her mother, she was spotted by a talent scout, being tall that she was for her age, triggering her modelling career. There was no stopping her from that point on. She first joined the Modcerinas de Manila beauty pageant in 1991 where she won the title, then she was off to Mutya ng Pilipinas in 1995, garnering 2nd runner-up. In 1996, she competed for the Bb Pilipinas titles, bagging the Bb Pilipinas-World crown and won Miss Personality in the Miss World stint. And the rest is history. She eventually ventured into show business as an actress and singer, becoming more popular and successful.

You may ask, how is her spiritual life? Daisy is a living testimony of a very successful person whose life is well-anchored to the Christian way of life which is purely based on faith in God. The Lord is the center of her universe so she knows that she will never go astray no matter what. For one to be able to weather any challenge that life brings, she says one has to find his weapon. And she found her weapon in Christ. Constantly praising God has made her pure in heart and soul. She is a true-blue Christian, that she is.

This and much, much more is the stuff that Daisy Reyes is made of. She has come a long way from being a mere beauty queen cum celebrity. She has been blessed with a lovely daughter, Gabrielle Lauren, who is now 11 years old and her source of inspiration. Daisy has also become a well-known figure in the fields of sports, business and politics. She's a very competent golfer, easily bagging trophies in competitions she participates in, hence, becoming the NikeGolf brand ambassadress. She was also chosen as the endorser for Longrich Bioscience Inc. and Belmere Skin Clinic. Business-wise, she is the proud owner of a beauty salon and is presently operating a perfume and soap factory, the label of which is under her own name. On top of these, she is currently on her second term as councilor for Pateros district. You can't get more diverse than this. What is impressive is that she is doing very well in all fields and is having the time of her life at the same time.

Her secret? Keeping both of her feet firmly planted on the ground, being thankful for God's goodness all the time, and trusting in Him to guide her every step of the way in all facets of her life. Armed with all these, giving up would never be an option for her. She is truly a class on her own. And she does it all for the glory of God. At this point, there's only one direction for her to go, and that's up.

In the end, Daisy's wish is that many would be inspired as we come to know her. She did not tell her story just so she could gloat or boast of how far she had come. She shared her life and opened herself up to us so we could learn from her story and like her, eventually lead a spiritually-blessed and fruitful life which I'm sure, all of us are hoping for. Daisy Reyes - mother, beauty queen, celebrity, sportswoman, entrepreneur, politician - in one word - DYNAMIC!

Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2015: Front Row Seats Dos and Don'ts

Are you guys ready to see the latest collections by our talented fashion designers on PhFW runway? I list down some of my observations based on the events I’ve attended from local and international fashion events.

What are you wearing?

If you are tend to worry about what to wear to these types of events because certainly you don’t want to beat the models or designers.  No!  That is not a big concern; you can wear what you want as long as you follow the dress code policy imposed by the fashion show organizer.  You can be as pretty fashionable and enjoy taking photos on the red carpet before or after the show.

Where are you sitting?

Front seats usually reserved for designers VIP like Ambassadors, Fashion Editors, Press/Media, Sponsors and celebrities. In New York, London and other major fashion events, fronts seats are for boutique and showroom owners and fashion buyers.  Second row are for slightly less important such as fashion bloggers, other fashion magazines and other not so famous celebrities. For the last season I observed some under casting and unfiltered front row assignment.

I prepared some observations and the dos and don’ts being seated on the front row.  These are some of the important reminders to guide you when attending the fashion show.

  • Make sure to have your printed e-Ticket and valid ID's
  • Everyone on the front seats has a job to do; making noise and chatting with your friends are not advisable.
  • Don’t carry a big bag to avoid tripping over the people beside you
  • Prepare your camera, ipad, ball pen, and notebook.
  • If you are jotting down the review from the designers collections, make sure to have their fashion inspiration from their designer’s profile.
  • Advisable for the girls to wear a high heel, because the people see the shoes first. A pair of high heels gives you more attitudes.
  • Don’t overdo with the photos. Just take some few photos to those stunning collection and the unforgettable runway moments.
  • Stay cool, calm and don’t be overwhelmed if you see some famous celebrities.
  • Dress properly accordingly according to season!

Front row seats will suppose to be well planned and assigning the people to occupy based on their importance. There is a hierarchy and this will be for the benefit of the designers as they need more exposure and needs a review from the most important people in the fashion industry.

In the name of good fashion, people are tending to adopt the trend and make the best of it to be called “fashionista”.

See you on the runway!
