Miss Earth 2016 Candidate: Jan Louise Abejero - QUEZON CITY

Describe your childhood/growing years (8-13 years old)
As a child, I loved playing outdoors, and I have always been fascinated with nature. I would buy Daisies on pots and Horsetails and grow them in our garden. There was even a time when I would try to reproduce cactus and Calachuchis in our yard. In fact, they’re still here!

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Make every experience a learning opportunity.

Most memorable moment
Back when I joined and did not get the most coveted award in our highschool’s pageant, I remember our principal was giving me her congratulations. She smiled, and whispered to me “Don’t worry, you’ll always be my beauty queen.”

What is the most unusual thing you've ever done?
Going home from school back in my fourth grade, I learned electric consumption posed an environmental concern. In my deep desire to save the world, I endured three nights in a row without using our electric fan. I remember how sweaty I got but nevertheless, it’s a funny good memory.

What is your ambition in life?
I want to serve other people, have a business that serves people and inspire other people to live out their life’s purpose.

Why do you want to be Miss Philippines Earth?
I want to use it as an opportunity to reach out to more people and organizations that will support causes to protect the Earth. I want to protect the natural life not just for the people of today, but also for the people of tomorrow.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
I would like to zero-in on fighting air pollution and climate change through reduction of GHGs (Greenhouse Gases). In order to get on and live healthy, we need not just clean air but a home to live in. I want to bring out awareness and raise support to further this cause. Here in Metro Manila alone we are reaching higher air pollutant concentration every year especially with the problem of traffic congestion as a main cause. Air pollution and climate change is a battle we must fight together. With the help of Miss Philippines Earth, partnership with various organizations, and your help, we are all warrior-ambassadors for the earth in our fight against climate change and air pollution.
